Finally over 20!

20 pounds that is...

Last night we got an automated call from our doctor's office reminding us that the "patient born on October 4th has a appointment". Huh? Oh, right... well baby. A look at the calendar revealed that it was a 9:15 in the morning, for William. Not good! Nathan's therapy is at 9:00 down in town!

Fortunately I remembered that Mark has the next two weeks off and therefore will be home. We discussed and decided that I would take Oren to school and then head to town for Nathan's therapy. Mark would venture to the hospital and take William to his appointment.

I am so proud of him! He has only been to a handful of the kids appointments due to his schedule, and this is the first time he has taken the kids to one by himself. Ever. He has taken a child to the ER occasionally, but never and official scheduled check-up. He had to fill in the "check your child's milestones" paperwork that the doctors want. The can your child stack 2 blocks, or jump up and down, or say 5 words or more kind of stuff. He was proud of himself too and called me on my way home to tell me how it went.

William is finally over 20 pounds! When we took him in for an ear infection not even a month ago, he was only 19lb 11oz. Up 1 oz from 2 months before! Not great. Of course, he had spent 3 weeks being sick with different things and not eating a lot. Today he weighed in at 20 lb and 9 oz. He is closer to the actual lines on the growth chart now, and his height line has jumped up a little too! I thought he felt a little heavier the other day, kind of all of a sudden. So I guess he had a growth spurt. This means he is legal to be forward facing in the car, which is good since we switched him 4 months ago!

I'm sure this seems like a silly thing to be so excited about, but this is the kid who we had to bring in every week with a food diary of EVERYTHING we put in his mouth, for a good 3 months, and then once a month for the next 6 months. Then we were down to every 3 months, and now he is on the normal well-baby track. Just because his growth chart kept going down. They were talking about running tests to see why he wasn't gaining weight. So finally being over 20 lbs is a huge thing for us. They are finally leaving us alone and have finally figured out he is just a small guy.

I feel like I am always playing catch-up on everyone's blogs... So here it goes!

That's great that William is finally big enough to shut off the dr's radar :)

I love your pics of the kids playing in the sprinklers! Last summer I bought a sprinkler at Wal-Mart that was in the kids' toys section. It's a long hose with lots of 4" nozzles coming off of it that spray the water in all directions. Best $10 I ever spent!

I so envy you your trip with your hubby this weekend :) Steve and I are hoping to get part of a weekend alone maybe in mid-August while his parents watch kids for us.

I definitely want to hear how your BBQ goes, since that is one of Steve's favorite forms of food, and always popular for the summer anyway, and I look forward to seeing pics of the cake that you're doing for the seniors, too!

I wish I had this kind of weight problem. :)No, but I really understand. I don't like the charts at all because every kid IS so different and grows and develops differently.
Either way, I'm glad he hit his 20 lbs and that he is growing and healthy.

Congratulations to William for growing so big! And congratulations to you for surviving the doctors all thinking something was wrong with him. What a great milestone to reach!

And I understand about the car seat. We had Zaylee in a front-facing for a while. At a well baby appointment later, she measured 20 pounds and the nurse said, "Now you can finally turn that car seat around!" Oops, it hadn't even occurred to me that we had put her facing forward too soon!

Yeah for William!! We have dealt with Drs on the weight issue! They can really get in your face! LaNita weighed 16and 1/2 pounds at her 6 month well baby, and barely 16 lbs at her 1 year check up. She had spent almost 3 weeks being very sick and hardly able to keep anything down. Having had 2 kids already that were hospitalized with dehydration at about the same age, I kept her home and took care of her, careful to check for dehydration etc. When the Dr freaked out and I told her this, she got very smug and said..."I wasn't aware that dehydration ran in families"! I was very mad and told her small babies DID run in families and I knew it didn't take much for my children to hit that stage when they were sick...I hate it when they think they "know all"!

I didn't know I was so sickly as a baby, but I've gained weight steadily since then;) Congrats on living through doctors, they can kinda be like in-laws: they know everything, and charge you for the advice.

That is wonderful news about William!!!!! I am still getting to know everyone - what was his birth weight? I am sure it has been hard watching his weight and keeping track of everything he ate!!!! What great news!!!!!!

I am picking up Jacob's glasses today!!!! I will take pics and post them this weekend! :)

Your meal sounds delicious!!!!!! Especially the bread and brownines!!!!! :))

Wow. That is awesome news. How fun. I went in for my own check up and haven't gained very much. They are not too concerned but I talked to someone else who is due the day before me and she is 20 pounds ahead of me! Wow. I definitely don't look like I have only gained a few pounds, and I really am not watching my weight.
