It's good to be home!

Another long day in the car, but we survived! In fact, it was actually quite enjoyable. The kids sat quietly in the back and hardly made a sound. No arguing, no kicking the back of ours and each other's chairs. Just an occasional, "I'm thirsty". I can handle that. No, this wasn't a miracle. We owe the peace and quiet to a lovely new toy. A dual, portable DVD player! We have made this drive so many times thinking, "Wouldn't it be great if they could just watch Elmo or something, keep them quiet?" All the games and toys lose steam around hour 3 and we still have a ways to go. Well, we were tired of it. We make frequent trips to Boise too, and those can be killer. So we bit the bullet and found a decent one at Walmart while we were in Idaho Falls.

We ended up spending plenty this weekend, kind of ouch, but most of it was actually at Sam's Club. I am suprised it all fit in the car on the way back here! I won't have to buy toilet paper, paper towels, dishwasher detergent, or cat food for at least 6 months! And 3 months on William's diapers, 2 for the older boys. Got plenty of minced onions, should last a year. My membership expires in May, and I will be switching to Costco then, since Sam's is way to far here to go to regularly. Plus, I like Costco's wipes better. I appreciate buying in bulk. My kids are no harder to deal with in the warehouse store than any other store, and at least I can go less often that way. And you can save some money too, which is nice...

I was a goose, and left the camera in the car this weekend, but I did take some neat shots of the drive on the way home. Keep in mind, we were doing 80, and it's not a professional camera, so some shots may be kind of blurred..

As we were driving, sometimes the hills would suddenly give way to a valley. Just a quick flash, like a sneak peak, and then they would close again.

I enjoyed watching the fields go by. The lines on this one were amazing. Rolling hills, plow furrowed, green just waiting to grow.

This one I just liked the huge silos in the back, cows just minding their own business. And the crooked lines on the fence. Luckily we were going fast enough we didn't catch the smell...

When we got back in the car after dinner, we enjoyed a beautiful sunset. All these came out blurry, but I love the dark outline of the trees against the orange glow.

Some great shots--all things considered! Glad you had a nice trip. And the portable DVD players, CAN'T believe you have survived THIS long wthout them!! We bit the bullet a long while ago and are SO glad! :)

Good luck getting life back to normal!

Well, the cost was one major issue. And Mark is one of those guys that would prefer not to spend any money. But he got just as tired as I have been, so when he brought up the idea, I jumped on it. I wasn't going to spend that much without him knowing, no matter how much I wanted them. But we are very glad we did it. Now I just have to remember to keep the car locked if we aren't in it. I have a terrible time remembering to do that. Next on my wish list is a Nikon D40 with a couple of different lenses! I am thinking Ebay, I don't mind a gently used model...

I'm glad the trip went smoothly. And how exciting to have portable dvd players. It'll probably be awhile before we get one, but we don't really travel enough or far enough to justify it. By the way, we have a Nikon D40 and love it. I wish I could remember the website where we bought it because it was super cheap. I'll let you know if it comes to me.
