Not sure what to do...

Okay, I have had a little setback. The family that was going to take Chloe called me this afternoon. They have changed their minds. Apperantly, after spending some time with her Monday without me there, to see how they all do, they just don't feel right about it. They were all excited at first, but the more they think on it it doesn't feel right. Okay, I don't blame them, I'm LDS too and I know what they mean. But this leaves me in a bit of a sticky situation, and I can't help but be a little upset about it! I don't want to have to take her to the animal shelter, but I promised Mark this wouldn't be a long term thing, and I can't take 2-3 months to find her a family! I don't know what I am supposed to do. I will be thinking long and hard, and I should probably pray about it. My boys will be ecstatic that we have her for a little while longer at least. And I know if I did take her to the shelter, she wouldn't be there long. She is a purebred, even if she does need quite a bit of work. Someone is bound to snatch her up! (If only I didn't feel so bad about it, abandoning her when she has such a strong attachment to me already and is just getting used to our kids...)

A few options:
Let people in your ward know that she is available. Someone might need a companion, or know someone who does.
List her on craigslist; I'm sure you could quickly find someone there, and you can still let people know that you're going to be a little choosy about where she goes.
List her on your local freecycle. I've seen lots of families who are looking for a good home for their family pet put them that way.
Good luck!

I say the sooner you get rid of her the better. That will ease the attachment issues. It might be a rough adjustment at first, but she will get used to someone new. I think really respecting your husband's wishes are first. I say list her on Craigslist and if she isn't gone in a week, take her to the shelter. You know she would be taken there, and probably by someone who cares. Good luck! Tough situation!

The animal shelter might not be so bad. I don't know how they are in Idaho but here they take really good care of them and keep them as long as they need to until they find a good home. I know you want to make sure she's taken care of but I agree with Rachel that a happy husband is more important. Freecycle is also a good suggestion. You can't give dogs away on Craigslist but you could sell her...you have to at least charge an adoption fee. Good luck!

I just posted her on Craigslist for a small rehoming fee. We'll see what happens with her. I also responded to a Craigslist Want-ad. They want a small dog. So I told them all about her, hopefully I will hear back soon. Mark was miffed at the other family too. He doesn't mind her hanging around for a while, because I promised him it wasn't permanent. So he has stopped being a grouch about it, but now I need to find her a good home. I am crossing my fingers!
