I should be more glad that nothing really earth-shattering has happened lately to blog about, but that does tend to make it harder to figure out what to write about.
Let's see...
We got a new kitten! 6 weeks old, gray, female short hair with blue eyes (so far!) She's a sweetie and likes to snuggle right in your neck. She follows me around the house with a little hop in her step, and Daniel enjoys dragging her around the house. She doesn't love it as much as he does. :-)
What else...
I did another wedding cake! Of course, that was the one I posted on facebook. I loved using such a bright pink, and got to work with silk flowers again. The cake took a good portion of my week, which means that my house is going to take a lot of work to get back to normal.
And that stinks because...
Next week the management are conducting apartment inspections! Agggg! If they expect some spotless and well-maintained home, they are out of their minds. There are 4 boys, and 1 of me. Mark is so busy with school and work that he's hardly ever here right now, so it's really all up to Mommy. (But I'm so proud of the work he's doing!)

When it rains!
Okay, this is just because it happened to thunder and lightening hard enough to shake my couch today, with rain pouring down. I love days like this!
Although there was pouring in the house... Daniel and William got into the food storage again and dumped out 2 boxes of stuffing, 1 large bag of elbow macaroni, 1 container of powdered cheese broccoli soup and 3 boxes of pasta with seasoning.
Got that all cleaned up, but while I was writing about the above mess, Daniel apparently took off his diaper and pooped on the otherwise clean carpet. Then came running into the living room and tried to climb up on the couch beside me- the smell tipped me off. I love my life.
I really should put locks on the closet doors!
I've been enjoying thinking up new flavor combinations for my cakes lately, and today played around with Orange Dreamsicle. I tried a real buttercream, which is stiff meringue with hot syrup and butter beaten in. I've been scared to try this, for some reason, but it actually went really well and I can see myself using it more often in the future. Just goes to show that you shouldn't be scared to try new things, they often turn out better than you think!
The boys are enjoying the summer, it hasn't been too hot lately. But we use any excuse to eat otter pops! Yes, they have artificial coloring, and Oren does occasionally have the red ones. But then I send him outside to run off the crazy. And at the rate they would go through those things if allowed, I'm saving lots of space in my freezer verses getting the pricier and bigger natural ones from Popsicle. Otter pops are addictive!!!!! Especially late at night! But better that than eating a ton of ice cream I suppose.
I'm also happy to report that we have Oren off of the melatonin now at bedtime! We lowered his ADHD med dose for the summer in the hopes of helping him sleep lighter, and at some point, stop wetting the bed. If it doesn't, then the next step is trying a drying medication. And hoping that his body adjusts his heavier sleep rhythm sooner rather than later.
Life right now is just taking things day by day, and hoping for the best. But isn't it always like that?

Cake Recipe
As per Melinda's request, the recipe and instructions for the Snickers Cake have been posted on my recipe blog.
I forgot my camera, so have no photos of Oren's birthday, although I believe Grandma has a couple on her camera of Oren blowing out his candles. But he had a good birthday and enjoyed having time with his cousins, aunts and uncles, and grandparents! We provided dinner, although we don't have the space for 15+ people and had to have it at Grandma's house, and that was enjoyed by all as well. At some point I'll have to post my chicken enchiladas recipe, but I'll leave it at the cake for now. :-)
