Isnt' she pretty? This is Kiya (pronounced like Kia but that is a car so we changed the spelling), our new friend. She enjoys running on her wheel, and finding the juicy little tidbits in her food bowl. She has let me touch her, but it not up to me picking her up yet. She is a longhaired, but the females have shorter hair than the males. The males actually need brushing sometimes, like a longhaired dog or cat. She won't need as much care, her coat is only about a 1/2 inch long. What a doll!

She IS cute! Looks like you are a must-have-a-pet family. (We've been fine with just a fish tank, and that sporadically.) Hope you all have fun with your new addition.
Mom and Dad didn't let us have pets growing up. I had a turtle Janelle for for about 2 weeks, and some sea monkeys(bine shrimp), and a fish for a few weeks from a Nursery activity. That was it. Dad went as far as to get a cage, shavings, food, everything but the hamster once. The cage sat on our piano for months, and we would spin the wheel for "Fred and George" who were pretend. That is just sad. They have outside cats now, for catching mice... So I was kind of pet deprived. But at least having a temporary dog made Mark admit he really does like our cat! I like animals, and want my boys to grow up with them. Mark was talking about tarantulas the other day. Hmmm... Inside the cage at all times, and maybe.
sorry, I meant to write "a turtle Janelle found".
I am a pet person, and would be happy to have almost anything (I draw the line at spiders and insects) and have occasionally mentioned birds, snakes, hamsters, and dogs to Steve. He's not a pet person and would be willing to let me have a dog someday when Madison is older but has a decided preferrence for fish, since they don't require anything of him. Your hamster looks adorable, though!
