Whoops....

I just broke the last of the glasses that were given to Mark and I for our wedding. I am actually a little proud of myself, it took me 6 1/2 years to break 3 dozen glasses. I have also broken all the dinner plates but one from the set from Grandma Danes, all the bowls but one and two of the dessert plates from the same set. Corelle ware does indeed break..... hmmm. Knowing how clumsy I am, I am suprised they lasted this long. I am not too upset however, a friend knew I was running low on glass cups, which are nice for ice water and company, so she gave me a nice plain set of heavier glass. I have already broken one of those since December. :-) Why do I use glass? It makes ice water taste better, I swear. The ice clinks nicely against the glass. It feels heavy, which makes me feel like I am using quality dishes, even if they were cheap cups. I appreciate using glass while my children use plastic. All of my world revolves around my children, but my dishes...... they have small blue plastic plates and bowls, I use the ceramic ware and glass cups. Ah....adulthood. So a glass breaks now and then.....okay, quite frequently...... who cares? Glass is cheap, and when I break them all, as in inevitable, I will simply get more.....

Oh man! You talk about dishes like paper towels! :)

I haven't broken a single plate from Grandma--I really DIDN'T think Corelle breaks! And dang it, if my mom's dishes have stuck around for almost 30 years, I'm determined to make my wedding gift do the same!! :) The kids eat off plastic though--and use plastic/sippy cups. You really think there is a difference in the way the ice tastes?? I wouldn't have noticed--but the fact of the matter is, I'm a plastic cup drinker here. Those resturaunt style cups--that's what we have. I HATE drinking out of glass cups! It makes me so nervous (hence the reason I never noticed ice might taste better there). :)

You make me laugh...

I geit fairly upset when I break something. A few things have broken over the years (a set of cups that were given to me when Kellen was born, a rose bowl that I bought for my hope chest when I was in high school, a sugar shaker that Grandma R. gave me) and I tend to get a little emotional when it happens, mostly because they have sentimental value attached to them. My Corelle has lasted fairly well, there have only been a handful of breakages there over the years. My glasses, though, are a $10 box from Ross, but they're really heavy so I almost never break them. Kellen is fine to use glassware, and has been for a long time, but now Maddi is starting to want the glass and she makes me a little more nervous.

But I guess they *are* just dishes!
